What is an IATA three-letter airport code?

United States airports, as well as airports around the world use a universal unique three-letter airport code, or Location Identifier defined by the International Air Transport Association. It's easier to say, and write JKF than New York,
John F Kennedy International Airport for the pilots, controllers, travel agents, frequent flyers, computers and baggage handlers. It's the three-letter code you see on baggage tags in the airport.

Are there four-character codes?

The ICAO airport code is a four-character alphanumeric code used to designate all airport around the world as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization. ICAO codes differ from the IATA codes used for reservations and baggage, as they are used by air traffic control for flight planning and airline operations, and are not inluded in this list.
